Hickory Nut Gap Meats

The Farm

Hickory Nut Gap Farm was established in 1916 when Jim and Elizabeth McClure purchased the land. Since that time, it has remained in the family through 5 generations. The farm is currently run by Jamie and Amy Ager. In 2006, Jamie and Amy saw an opportunity to open the farm to the community and began to focus the family farm on agritourism. Opening to the public for tours, activities, and events throughout the year gave HNG a sense of transparency in agriculture. Their goal; to share the concept of sustainable farming and responsible land stewardship with the community.

Meats Division

In 2015, with the growing popularity for 100% Grassfed Beef and Pastured Pork and Chicken in the region, HNG develops a wholesale division called Hickory Nut Gap Meats and builds relationships with other like-minded family farmers who believe in the same values of humanely raised animals and responsible land stewardship. Together, HNG’s group of family farmers are working to change the paradigm of agriculture by connecting farmers and customers in the pursuit of high quality, healthy, humanely raised meats.

HNG Meats sources from approximately 30 farms in our region to ensure high quality consistent grassfed beef, pastured pork and chicken supply to our customers that is raised to our protocol and standards. These family farms are a vital link in bringing healthy, humanely raised products to market.

Our Vision

Over the last 18 years the concepts of pasture based, environmentally friendly farming have been the guiding philosophy of Hickory Nut Gap’s livestock production. These concepts were pioneered by farmers in the likes of Joel Salatin, Wendell Berry, and Sam Dobson. We aim to increase biodiversity and pay attention to the relationship between soil, plants, and animals. At the farm, we are a place for folks to come touch and feel and learn about agriculture. Through the brand and wholesale company, we can build the market opportunity for farmers who share these pasture based ideals. In essence, we exist to make agriculture and food better in every way possible.
