The San-J Story
San-J International, Inc. is dedicated to the manufacturing of premium Tamari soy sauce and quality Asian-inspired products. We endeavor to produce excellence in our products and service. Our story starts over 200 years ago! After gaining acceptance in the US natural marketplace San-J opened up a plant in Henrico, Virginia in 1987. It was the first Tamari brewing facility built in the U.S. Today Takashi Sato, an eighth generation member of the founding family, is president of San-J and continues the high standards for brewing the world’s finest Tamari soy sauce.
What is Tamari?
San-J Tamari is naturally brewed with 100% soybeans and no wheat. It displays a noticeably richer and smoother taste than regular soy sauce due to higher concentration of soy protein. Made with no artificial preservatives or additives. San-J Tamari is certified gluten free, kosher, vegan, and Non-GMO Project verified. Food Philosophy
The basic brewing methods have always been the same. We use pure simple ingredients and rely on great power of natural fermentation to create the rich complex flavor that San-J is known for, without shortcuts. There were no genetically modified ingredients or artificial preservatives 200 years ago like what exists today, and we still do not use GMO ingredients today. We stick with the ingredients that nature designed for us. We believe that’s the way it should be to contribute to people’s heathier lifestyle, which leads to happiness and more natural smiles.
